THE 1920'S EXPERIENCE

It was a time of conservatism, it was a time of great social change. From the world of fashion to the world to politics, forces clashed to produce the most explosive decade of the century. In music, the three sounds were jazz, jazz, and jazz.
The Jazz Age came about with artist like Bessie Smith and Duke Ellington. Youth ruled everything. From the young styles of dress to the latest celebrities. If it was young, it was the thing. It was the age of prohibition, it was the age of prosperity, and it was the age of downfall. It was the age of everything, and you'll find [almost] everything here.

1921 - September 8: First Miss America pageant held in Atlantic City; November 11: Unknown soldier of World War I buried 1922 -
November 26: Archaeologist Howard Carter finds tomb of Tutankhamen near Luxor, Egypt

1924 - February 3: Former President Woodrow Wilson dies; November 4: Calvin Coolidge is elected President

1925 - October 2: Scottish inventor John Baird invents the first form of a television

1920'S DECOR

As with architecture, interior design in the flapper era tended to the extravagant, the exotic, the romantic. What appears dowdy and old-fashioned today was cutting edge in the twenties.
Electricity and indoor plumbing had been common for years, but became more mainline in the twenties as these amenities became both acceptable and affordable for the common man.
